"Jingle all the way..."
*yawn* Someone really needs to invest in a better means of letting people sleep on a bus. Even if there are padded boxes like in The Fifth Element, itd be heaps better than taking your chances with deep vein thrombosis from sitting upright for 13 hours.
I got home after the standard marathon public transport shenanigans only to dump my gear just in my door and then head straight to work. Hopefully nothing was broken or stolen between Melbourne and Port Pirie, guess I'll find out tonight though.
Well it was a pretty great way to end off the LANning year for me, I won't have time to go to any other events till next year somewhere and as far as gigs go 'MonsterLAN XIII - Unwrapped' was totally righteous. Appart from my now-typical moody self everyone who was there had a really great attitude and that made it a really fun place to be. And that's for the entire LAN I might add as well.
Comps were a rumbling beast as usual. I should have switched Call Of Duty: United Offensive to single-elimination when we ended up with so many teams but forgot and that resulted in a fairly massive overrun. Two matches running into a tie part way through as well certainly didn't help either.
Mercifully the UT players came to my salvation (again) by being about as slick and well oiled as you could hope for. They got into their servers quickly, most went ready for live without waiting for the whole 5 minutes of warmup, and the games were for the most part played well. DLD again managed to not join a team and then connect to a random server, I'll need to educate him and others better probably.
We ran UT right through to the end with the Pizzas amazingly arriving right near the end of the final for it. Which was pretty unexpected since they're usually done around 2000 or so, that's why we wedge in Smacktard at 1900.
Smacktard was a little painful still yet much better than last time. If we only give the people 10 seconds to think of a question it might speed it up. But it's still ooodles better than anything we've tried before.
Then after a quick video show - during which I got none of my gaming ones in since A. I forgot to bring half of them and B. it would have been a bitch to switch the feeds or send them all to Lupins PC - we got straight into the last couple of games in the TITLE FIGHT + the fight itself. EngelAusShlaue won against all of the other 3 challengers to end up facing SlasherZ again. And this time he scored a frag! Final score was 10-1 SlasherZ's way, but it was still a pretty entertaining match.
Then Boxy kicked off Battlfield 2 after a quick open practice for Dodgeball. The team I was in could have won if I hadn't been playing like a twat and had brought a quality mouse, also we were pretty shakey teamwork wise. But we made it to the finals despite a loss part way through, so I'm not all that dissapointed.
After BF2 we had MAME (or maybe dodgeball - i forget which came first), which had an impressive 6/7 people playing in it despite being at around 3am. Ronnie ended up taking out the medallion for that.
CP also ended up running a CS:S comp by request at around 6am through till 8am. Jolt_Master took up the graveyard shift again like the champion he is and pulled us through till 9ish while the CSS tourney was on.
I got to play RUNE with the old crowd again which is always a blast. And I once again blame my shitty mouse for making me lose a few of the matches. Which when combined with BF2 and a great session of NFS:MW with Lupin, Ronnie, and even DLD in the early morning turned ML XIII into a LAN where I gamed. RIGHTEOUS!
Much respect out to the whole admin team for what was once again a superb effort; CherryPopper, Lupin, Jolt_Master, Boxy, Woosa and cisco_queen in absence. Twas a fantastic event and I enjoyed it immensely.
