"I'm such a stats pfhore."
CP and I laid down some pain last night on the 'node servers. At least it felt like we were anyway ![]()
Follow up:
We managed to assemble a not-terrible squad (in that they used voice comms and wern't 'tards) and savagely fought our way across the maps. Unfortunatly it seams that despite some truly heroic efforts (each of us ended up holding flags on our own against hordes of enemy at various points) we only won about 2/3 rounds out of probably 12 that we played.
I did manage some absolutely glorious saves though, many of CP as well (so I have a witness!). Like when I was blindy following CP (as usual really) across a road and two APCs thunder allong shredding CP and blasting everything around me. The air was thick with the smell of cordite and crack of gunfire. Dodging like a mofo I avoided the crossfire of both APCs plus some dismounted infantry, sprinted to CPs fallen corpse and res'd him, then dived into the folliage on the other side of the road and slinked away with CP coming allong right on my heels.
"How the fuck did you survive that?" he yelled over TS incrediously. Yeah baby, I am the ninja medic.
But it did get me thinking...
When I'm playing I'm doing everything I can (usually) to try and help my team win. I'm a medic so my game experience involves me running around like a crazy person and paddling any fallen comrades back to life ASAP. Often that is to my detriment as it means that I die while they live, but the life of a medic is a life of sacrifice. But is that enough? What can I do to help my teammates actually WIN.
I know my limitations and skills. Due to excessively biased play I'm certainly not a jack of all trades. I never leap into a jet because I find that unless they are in skilled hands they are a waste of time, and I'm not a skilled pilot (I was in '42, not in 2). I'm only occassionaly in a tank but will more often than not leap out of it to heal or resurrect and fallen team mate, I have no illusions about being a tanker. Since starting to use the sniper kit I've found it extremely enjoyable and getting the unlock for it made it doubly so, however I havn't tested the ballistics model of BF2 enough yet to be a truly great sniper.
All that could easily change if I just spent more time in those other areas, but more and more often I find that I'm the only medic in a combat zone. Especially so after the 1.03 patch with many of the stat phreaks no doubt bailing for another class. This means that when people die on the frontlines either I raise them, or the battle line collapses.
I really want to do more for my team and be a valuble asset and actually achieve a win more likely than not. But it just seems that often no matter what I do the hordes of red dots are swarming towards me with hate in their eyes, the assets are still recharging, my teammates are no-where in sight, and I hear the dead mans click.
The life of a medic is sacrifice. ![]()
