Sail upon my ship of Woe
At work just now, talking about development in general. And then a bit of a bombshell;
This project I'm working on, the stupidly complex and important one. The one that is going to control a multi-multimillion dollar operation. The one that only I am working on...
Follow up:
Turns out that if it isn't up to spec, or isn't delivered on time that basically all development work is going to be outsourced on the Port Pirie site. As in, count yourself as surplus to requirements sonny jim allong with every other developer in the office. As if I didn't need any MORE FUCKING STRESS!
Jesus H Christ.
I'm gonna spend some time updating my resume. As little as there is that's there at least I have six-eight months EJB3 experience. But damn it, the money here was great and it's cheap as chips to live here too. But I gotta expect to get out of here sooner rather than later.
The work conditions verily suck gratuitous amounts of arse though - with death around every corner, absolutely asshat managers, inadequate funding and personel, inadequate training (I still havn't been given any formal training in anything, despite moving to new tech), and stupid expectations to boot.
Did I mention that they made a $265.8 million dollar net profit after tax this last financial year? Did I also mention that they intend on reducing their workload by 70 positions. That's out of the 700 permenant staff, there will be even more coming out of the 500 or so contractors.
Or how about the fact that the IT crew have been granted $140,000 to do a network upgrade site-wide (there is still coax and other tech from the 80s here). And then they pre-allocate $23,000 of that to do a single set of offices in one building. We have 23 core areas with are in dire need, and already our meagre budget has been butchered. Fucking ridiculous.
