Jobs & Pain
Yesterday a couple of things of note happened.
Thing 1 - My boss asked me if I wanted an interview for the permanent position.
Thing 2 - I had the 'final' meeting regards the functional logic. It didn't go as well as I'd hoped.
Follow up:
Thing 1)
The permanent job is a little bit like this one in that it's a lot of dev work. But the kicker is that it also means I'd have to support all the existing apps as well. And they're written in ASP, Access, Excel, J2EE, hieroglyphics, etc so it's not going to be an easy task.
I'd also be responsible for all the development projects on site and also some of the virtual development team projects, eg corporate/group projects. A bit more responsibility than I've had in the past, since should I fail it's not just dissapointment but millions of dollars of real money on the line when production halts due to a buggy app. It can and has happened, so when I take on the reigns it'll all be on me.
So I asked what he meant when he said "do you want an interview?" and he said that I could just skip it and they would straight up offer me the position. Wow. Apparently there were about fifteen other candidates and they were all either asking for waaaay too much money, were overseas people, or were fresh faced grads with absolutely 0 experience.
I'm thinking I'm gonna take the position. It's good money and even better 'trial by rocket hail fire' experience.
