But what about me!
May 25th, 2005What's happening in my life at the moment?
Well i'm working as a contracted Systems Analyst/Developer at a Smelter in Port Pirie, South Australia. The place is your stereotypical industrial site, it has excemptions from almost every environmental protection law in the country so it can keep operating. And it's like that because its the biggest facility of it's type (smelter) in the world. The smelter is basically the town. Cut out the smelter and you destroy the entire towns economy, since it's not really on the way to anywhere and doesn't have anything else to offer.
The facility itself is over 100 years old. Seriously. So there are things that date back right to it's foundation. It's kind of like a patchwork quilt, new things built on old things which were built on even older things. Scary and fascinating all at the same time.
The big kicker with the place apart from it's location is the hazards. Since it's a metals smelter (Lead, Zinc, Copper, Silver, Gold, etc) there are some very very serious health hazards around the place. Namely the fact that everything that gets made on site can kill you!
More later.
An inaugural post
May 25th, 2005Well here we are.
Stepping out into the pseudo-exhibitionist realm of blogs. What am I going to be blogging? My initial thoughts were "Why do I need a blog? I have forums for the different stuff I do!" then it occurred to me that a forum isn't mine. If I make a thread in a forum then after the conversation finishes it drifts to the bottom of the listing, never to be seen again until some n00b pulls it up asking for a crack to Half-Life2.
So instead I said, "Sure why not?" when ol' CP said "Blogs for all!". But what to blog?
Well I'll be blogging development progress on the little projects I work on. At the moment there are categories for Neverwinter Nights Modules and Operation Flashpoint missions, although I haven't looked at those projects for months they are as good a place as any to start.
I've also made a cat for ML stuff, so things that should be retained someplace that are more just me as opposed to actual contributions to the gig planning could go there.
In theory I'll enable comments on things so if thou hast a question, feel free to fire it off. Inevitably the blog will be slow to start and will hopefully snowball as I get more into it.
Peace out people, respect, honor, and all that jazz. ![]()
