Lights, Camera, Action...
Your probably wondering what the hell is Mark doing with "The Hockey Show", he knows nothing about hockey. Well your right I do know nothing about hockey even though I did play a game or 2 at high school just so I would get a few days off school.
Follow up:
One of the guys I work with is a presenter on the show (Matt) and after working with him on a project at work and seeing my skills with the camera & interest in editing asked me if I would like to help out on the show. So last Saturday night I went down to the State hockey center near the zoo for my first foray into TV broadcasting. Having filmed a lot of different events from deb's to running around the botanical gardens filming a mock amazing race I can honestly say filming a fast pace sport has got to be the hardest. Not only do you have to "follow the action" but trying to read the play well enough to know how to frame the shot correctly. So if they are passing to a guy just off-screen it looks a lot better if you zoom out a little to get that guy in shot. There is also the added pressure of making sure you get any goals scored as the viewing public (some of who were playing in the game) get very pissed if you miss them scoring that winning goal. After the first half of the first game I think I had it under control.
We did a few interviews as well as crowd shots etc... All in all it was a pretty good night and I had learnt a shit load of how not to film an action sport
Matt also dragged me in front of the camera to help him close off the show but we were laughing too much so I hope he doesn't end up using it.
So look for my name in the credits & maybe even my ugly mug ![]()
